hello mate,
this summer is very hot in japan. but tonight is not so and a little confortable.
the lonesome port, my band, is planning some gigs in september and october.

i have read some books....haruki murakami's "sydney!" and kobo abe's "suna no onna(the woman in the dunes)" and taro okamoto's "seishun picasso" .

my band the lonesome port will play in matsumoto(nagano prefecture)
and takaoka(toyama) next weekend. we did rehearsal today in the studio.
i hope we will have a good time and good shows in both places.

recently i listen to hikaru utada, the most popular female singer in japan.
her single collection is pretty goood. i really like it. she is awesome.

i went to a gig in shibuya tonight.
groundcover...japanese independent noize-trans-psychedelic-pop-future-core band...they are soooo awesome!!!
if you live in tokyo, you have to see them play in akihabara and koenji in april.

last friday night, i went to roppongi... jen wood, one of my favorite female singer
songwriter from us, played as a solo. the venue was cool, there were cozy sofa so
we enjoyed jen's beautiful voices with relaxed as if we we were in our home.
she is so slender and small woman just like japanese girl, but her guitar play and
her voices are so strong and powerful. convincing. she toured in japan with her band,
but that was only night she played by herself. she played many songs so i could really
enjoy her music. awesome.

and also, there was a japanese guy whose name is tomo nakayama, played before jen wood.
he said that he lives in seattle and has his own band called "asahi"(cool name!) and this is the first
time to play in japan. his voice was....brilliant! he also has beautiful voice and i was really surprised
and inspired by this japanese singer from us. after singing his original songs, he played jeff buckley's
(leonard cohen's) "hallelujah" as the last. tomo was also awesome and i realized that there were many
good musicians that i didn't know yet.

i gave jen my band treeslounge's cd. she gave me her cool t-shirts.

it was a wonderful night.

~beautiful marrige, with beautiful bridge~

masaki, one of my friends, got married yesterday and
marrige party was held at nice italian restaurant in o-daiba, cool tokyo bay area.
i saw the beautiful couple, and the beautiful rainbow bridge just behind them.

it was one of the most beautiful scene i ever saw.

today the lonesome port was in a studio for recording.
we did well and so quickly that we've finished 8 songs' back tracks.
it was a bit difficult for me to play the song "boy midnight" which needs
some skills of playing the acostic guitar...it has lots of arpeggio part.
but...mm, well done. and another song "lost" was also hard for me to play.
i need to be careful to play this song....so long and so quiet...kind of fragile.

now we are adding vocals and some guitar parts(by yusuke, our talented guitarist)
and some keyboard sounds. and then...i hope we will complete by the end of march.

please e-mail me if you want to listen our recording stuff.
and if you are a musician or if you have your band, why don't you exchange our works?
it will be fun and it will be one of the most creative thing in our life.

my band the lonesome port is now recording
for our first cd which will be releasing spring, april or may, i hope.
today we worked in the studio and we recorded two songs' back track.

in japan, we cannot have drums and amplifers(for guitar and bass) in our house.
i imagine that musician in america and other countries have their own stuff and
sometimes they play in their room and garage. maybe the situations are different
and it's a bit funny.

long time no post...mmm..so lazy

i saw an awesome japanese movie called "iden & tity".
this is based on a comic that is written by jun miura, who
is quite famous guy in japanse tv and sub-culture scene.
the story is about a musician "nakajima", who really wants to play his own
music. but he sometimes faces hard times in his life as an artist....the more
famous his band "speed way" is getting, the less he can play what he really
want to...the conflict between art and business, you know. after some difficult
situations around his musical life, he realize what he should do. every time
when he is going to do wrong, a "god of rock", who clearly look like bob dylan,
appears in front of nakajima and wakes him up. and also he has a girlfriend who
always understand him. she says to him, "you only have to do what you think
is right... to pursue the ideal, that is your job."

from dec 10th to 16th i went to sydney, australia to see my friends and
to play a gig. my band the lonesome port and my friend band called i am frogs
played with sneeze.

it was awesome one week trip. i will write about this soon.

lately i am reading banana yoshimoto's "amrita" in english.
it's one of my favorite novels in the world...every sentence she wrote
and even every word she chose are so powerful and vivid. highly recommended.
